Trump and the habit of giving his opponents unpleasant nicknames

President Trump, who is notorious for giving his critics and opponents nicknames and poking fun at them, has come up with a new insult toward presidential candidate, mayor Pete Buttigieg. During a rally on Thursday, Trump first mocked Buttigieg’s difficult-to-pronounce, Maltese surname, “Boot-edge-edge,” the president sounded out, “They say ‘edge-edge.’” Then he proceeded to call the mayor, Alfred Neuman. “Alfred E. Neuman cannot become president of the United States.” He said.

Alfred E. Neuman is the name of mascot and cover boy of Mad magazine, a satirical magazine founded in 1952. This character is famous for his facial features and seeming not-so-bright, with the catchphrase “Me Worry?”

After being asked about this, Pete Buttigieg subtly took an aim at President’s age by responding this way: “I’ll be honest: I had to Google that. I guess it’s a generational thing. I didn’t get the reference,” Buttigieg said. “It’s kind of funny, I guess. He’s also the President of the United States. I’m surprised he’s not spending more time trying to salvage this China deal.”

The ironic part is that Donald Trump himself has been lampooned and ridiculed multiple times on the cover of Mad magazine.

This is not the first time Donald Trump has given his rivals names. He came up with “Crooked Hillary”, a shot at his opponent Hillary Clinton during 2016 election. However, Democrats are not the only ones being mocked by Trump (although they compose the majority of his insult list!)
